About The Role

Currie & Brown is currently looking for a Quantity Surveyor (Rail Infrastructure) for our Birmingham office to support locally based infrastructure opportunities.

The successful candidate will, as part of our team, lead projects to achieve a high standard of service delivery, with successful outcomes for our clients, capturing and sharing knowledge across projects, enhancing our culture of innovation and reinforcing our reputation as a preferred service provider.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the successful candidate will include:

  • Assist in preparing feasibility studies and writing procurement reports.
  • Lead preparation of cost plans including measurement and pricing, taking ownership of and presenting cost plans.
  • Managing the procurement process, ensuring that all stages (including pre-qualification, enquiry, analysis, recommendation and contract preparation) are performed effectively
  • Ensuring that cost plans , reports and valuations are accurately prepared including checking work by others.
  • Producing accurate monthly post-contract cost reports and presenting them to the client
  • Estimating and agreeing post contract variations and monthly valuations.
  • Undertaking value engineering
  • Negotiating and concluding final accounts
  • Taking a lead role in interfacing with the client and other consultants at all project stages
  • Providing support to assistant cost managers and ensuring that they deliver on the above accountabilities
  • Supervising and mentoring junior members of the team

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • BSc in quantity surveying or equivalent
  • Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors preferred, or progressing towards
  • Experience with Rail Infrastructure in a QS capacity would be preferrable
  • Pre- and post-contract experience
  • Experience in both private and public works preferred.
  • Experience in working with JCT forms of contract
  • Good technical writing, client-facing and communication skills (both internal and external)
  • Well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well-disciplined and commercially astute
  • A team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible
