About The Role

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the substation and electrical works in a high-profile data centre project, in collaboration with TNB. The Senior Project Manager will oversee the planning, design, execution, and delivery of the substation infrastructure, ensuring all aspects of the project are completed within scope, budget, and timeline. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing large-scale electrical infrastructure projects and a strong understanding of working with utility companies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Leadership & Coordination:

  • Lead and manage the substation team, ensuring all work complies with the project's scope and requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for TNB and other key stakeholders regarding substation-related activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and consultants to ensure smooth project execution.

 

Project Planning & Execution:

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including timelines, resources, and budgets.
  • Oversee the preparation of design documents, technical specifications, and procurement plans for the substation works.
  • Manage substation engineering, construction, commissioning, and testing phases of the project.
  • Stakeholder Management:
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead regular project meetings to update stakeholders on project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.

 

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Proactively identify project risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with local regulations, industry standards, and company policies, especially those related to electrical infrastructure and safety.

 

Budget & Cost Control:

  • Monitor project costs and track expenditures, ensuring that the substation work stays within budget.
  • Approve and manage vendor and contractor payments, change orders, and other project-related financials.

 

Quality Assurance & Safety:

  • Ensure that all substation work is completed to the highest quality standards and adheres to safety protocols.
  • Lead the implementation of safety management systems and risk assessments to minimize incidents and accidents.

 

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, meeting minutes, and contract-related paperwork.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management and other stakeholders.

 

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's degree is a plus).
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing substation and electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Extensive experience working within commissioning field or similar utility companies on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex, high-value projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong knowledge of substation design, electrical systems, and data centre infrastructure.
  • Excellent understanding of local regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage diverse teams and stakeholders.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience in data centre or similar critical infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Proactive, results-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to motivate and guide project teams to success.
